2013 9U Tryout Information

Our goal as an organization is to develop skills, confidence, sportsmanship, teamwork and to have fun.  If this interests you, we would like to invite you to participate in our tryouts for the 2013 Lake Erie Storm 9U Travel Baseball Team.
The only requirements we have will be that our players are dedicated, work hard, have a team first attitude and the desire to improve.
We begin practice in mid-January two nights a week at our indoor facility on the border of Perry and Painesville Township, and then move outdoors to expand our development in the early spring. We plan to be in a league next year and play in five to six tournaments. Most – if not all – our games and tournaments will be played in the northeast Ohio area. During our 8U season we played in nine tournaments and all of them were in Parma, Solon, Mentor (twice), South Euclid, Eastlake, Highland Heights, Mayfield, and Willowick.
We are searching for a few players to round out our roster.  Every player will be given the opportunity to participate in all practices and to improve.  Playing time is earned, not handed out.  We as coaches will use proper judgment to ensure our team performs as a unit.
We are planning on having our first tryout on Saturday August 18th at about 6:00pm at Riverside High School (585 Riverside Dr; Painesville, OH, 44077) and a second tryout on Wednesday August 22 at 6pm at the same location. These times are subject to change, though are pretty firm. Please be sure to check back here once the date is closer to ensure the tryout date and time has not changed.
Please contact us if you are interested in joining our baseball family. If you have a son or family member interested in 10U or above teams, please let us know as our organization has teams for all ages up through 15U, so we can put you in contact with the coach of that team for tryout information.

Eastlake Tourney Runner-Up!

Congrats to the 8U Lake Erie Storm boys for their 2nd place finish in the Eastlake 8U Tournament the weekend of June 16-17. We started off sluggish in pool play, but played some great ball in bracket play on Sunday only to fall a run short in the championship. What a GAME that was.

We could not be any prouder of the way the boys played on Sunday. They gave it their all, played their butts off, and most importantly they had fun! While it was a tough loss and you hate to finish second, this was still a very good tournament for all the boys as every single one of them from 1 to 12 contributed to our success!

Also, congrats to Nick Messenger for winning the tournament home run derby! Way to represent big guy!

The Captains are coming

Ok, good news, as of now I have secured two Lake County Captains players to come to our practice on Tuesday. This is always subject to change, but right now they are locked in and coming.

The players will be there the entire time and they will help the kids with fielding, throwing, hitting, situations, and mental aspects to the game. The two players expected to come are outfielder Bryson Myles and first baseman Jerrud Sabourin. I will get with them on ideas for drills, etc that they are maybe familiar with so we are organized beforehand.

I wanted one infielder and one outfielder so they could work more specifically with our guys when we split practice between infield and outfield. Myles will be able to work a lot with our outfielders on proper throwing techniques, body positioning when catching/fielding a ball, backing up outfielders, etc. Sabourin will be able to help AJ a lot at 1B with how to rotate on his pivot and positioning, and also help the other infielders with their fielding, throwing, etc.

Also, I am sure that after practice the players will have no problems signing balls or caps and posing for pictures with the players. So bring your cameras and also something for the kids to sign (if interested).

Like I mentioned in the previous email, these guys know me and I respect them a great deal, but I would feel funny no paying them for their time, especially since it is the only off day for them in a month and they make what amounts to less than minimum wage playing minor league baseball. So that having been said, I promised them $180 to split between the two of them. I figured with 12 kids at $15 per kid, that would cover it.....unless Art has any extra money left from our $400 player fee or money from sponsors to cover the full $180 or some of it.

I hope the kids enjoy it....I wanted to do something fun for them but also in a way sort of be their own personal mini-camp and get to know two exceptional human beings that play the game for a living (Myles is an extraordinary person).

Parents are free to invite their other kids to take part in the post-practice meet and greet, but outside of the players and siblings on our team, I'd leave it at that. This is their event.

Thanks and let me know if you have any questions.
